COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Intensive English Program (IEP)

The Premium Intensive English Program offers language instruction with an approach that integrates four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The specific courses under these programs also include the incorporation of pronunciation, vocabulary building and conversation activities using grammar in context. Extra-curricular academic activities such as field trips to museums and historical sites, film showings and are provided to enhance and reinforce English proficiency.

Program Choices:

Premium IEP 20 Hours/week

This intensive program is four hours of instruction per day, five days a week, plus additional activities. The Premium IEP curriculum includes six (6) proficiency areas [Each class can be taken separately]:

    1. Communication Skills I (T/TH-Pre-intermediate)

Courses provide learners with basic communication skills and English grammar. They learn to construct simple to complex sentences and develop vocabulary skills to be able to participate in small group discussions.

    2. Communication Skills II (T/TH-Intermediate)

Courses develop learners' awareness of the relationship of grammar to meaning. They learn to participate in big group discussions and practice giving short talks. They develop fluency in speaking and writing.

    3. Business Communication I (M/W/F-Intermediate)

Courses enhance learners' ability to communicate with and understand Business English speakers. They increase grammatical accuracy in writing and speaking and develop Business English reading comprehension. Learners are able to participate in Business case studies through group discussion, presentations and negotiations.

    4. Business Communication II (M/W/F-Intermediate to Upper Intermediate)

Courses enhance learners' ability to communicate with and understand Business English speakers. They increase grammatical accuracy in writing and speaking and develop Business English reading comprehension. Learners are able to participate in Business case studies through group discussion, presentations and negotiations.

    5. Group Discussion I (M/W/F-Intermediate to Advanced)

Courses further develop learners' fluency in speaking, reading, listening and speaking. They attain a high command of vocabulary words and idioms to help them participate in class discussions. They acquire a stronger grammar foundation, develop their ability to react to readings and enhance active listening skills. This class is also well suited for current business people who are looking to maintain their English proficiency. Group Discussion I (M/W/F-Intermediate to Advanced)

    6. Group Discussion II (M/W/F-Upper Intermediate to Advanced)

Courses further develop learners' fluency in speaking, reading, listening and speaking. They attain a high command of vocabulary words and idioms to help them participate in class discussions. They acquire a stronger grammar foundation, develop their ability to react to readings and enhance active listening skills. This class is also well suited for current business people who are looking to maintain and improve their English proficiency and to discuss current events, social issues and etc.

    7. Business Writing (T/TH Intermediate to Advanced)

This course gives students a great foundation in business writing for practical use in an office/business setting. Students will learn proper reports, communications, writing styles and will be able to practice formal writing that they can immediately use in the workplace. This is a must class for any student who wants to write business English at work. This class is also well suited for current business people who are looking to maintain their English proficiency.


ELECTIVE/SPECIALTY ENGLISH COURSES

Elective courses are special classes designed to supplement and reinforce language acquisition. Students with an advanced level of English proficiency have the option of choosing these courses to enhance their four skills and attain a higher level of English proficiency. These courses help improve specific skills in preparation for greater career opportunities. Inquire about pricing and schedule.

Pronunciation & Accent Reduction I

The focus of this course is to help learners to become more aware of their pronunciation and the pronunciation of native speakers of North American English.

Pronunciation & Accent Reduction II

The focus of this course is to reinforce speaking and listening skills. Learners develop the ability to understand and use spoken English with good pronunciation and a more natural-sounding accent.

Current Events

This course improves reading comprehension, listening and speaking skills through the use of high-interest newspaper articles. It challenges students to think critically and express their opinions on a number of topical issues.

Academic Vocabulary I & II

This course helps students build the vocabulary necessary for success in the TOEFL, SAT, GRE and other standardized tests.

American Culture/Film

This course broadens students' understanding of American culture through the medium of film. Extensive analyses and discussions of various topics follow viewings of films selected for their relevance to American culture and impact on American society. Language skills are reinforced through the use of language in film, including idioms, phrasal verbs and twenty-first century vernacular.

Our English Professors


Prof. Bradley Brennan (USA)

Mr. Brennan is a Professor at Inha University School of Business and received an MBA from Sejong University/Syracuse University. Undergraduate degrees are from Pacific Lutheran University in Secondary Education and Sociology. With 10+ years of ESL & Business English teaching experience and another 8 years of Tourism Marketing/Public Relations working for the Korea Tourism organization in both Seoul as a Public Relations Manager and in the USA as a Regional Marketing Manager.

Prof. Timothy Smart (USA)

Mr. Smart is a Full-time Lecturer at the School of Business Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul and was previously a Professor at KAIST School of Business. Mr. Smart has an MBA from Sejong University/Syracuse University and has a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has 15+ years of ESL and Business English experience in Korea.

Prof. Al Giacchini (CAN)

Mr. Giacchini is a Professor and Director of Programs at Sejong University School of Business. Mr. Giacchini has 15+ years of ESL/Business/Law teaching experience in Korea and has a J.D. (graduate law degree specializing in commercial law) from the University of Windsor and a B.A. History and Political Science.

Prof. Lucas Merlo (AUS)

Mr. Merlo is a full time Lecturer at Kyunghee University in Suwon with over 10+ years of ESL/Business English teaching experience. Mr. Merlo has a MBA from University of South Australia Graduate School of Business (IGSB) Adelaide, Australia as well as a BA in Commerce.

Prof. Jonathan Lee (USA)

Prof. Lee was a Lecturer at Sukmyong Woman? University. He is a graduate of Sejong/Syracuse University MBA and Sejong University CEO MBA. Has a BA in Economics from Kalamazoo College in Michigan State. He has 15+ years experience in the business world and teaching and is bilingual in English (1st language) and Korean (fluent).
